I had the local NAPA dealer mix up a pint of Bobcat Silver for me but it looks a lot more silver than the Grey Black color I see on the machines. It also has a metal flake in it, he said that is what the code calls for, is this correct? I did spray a panel to see how it looks. I am fixing up a 520. Any pointers on where to get new decals?

sorry, I somehow completely missed your post.

Did NAPA use the Bobcat Silver 35388 code from this list? When you sprayed your test panel how did it look when it dried?

My understanding with decals is there are lots of folks that can get the generic kits for a specific model but they are less accurate in terms of exact replacements for Bobcat. The best ones, unfortunately, are the pricey genuine OEM from Bobcat dealers....and each decal has it's own part number.

Yes that is the code that I gave him. The paint looks really great dry BUT it is very silver metal flake. Looks great in the sun but very sliver, not the grey black that i see on the machines.
Do you think it is the metalflake? does metalflake belong in this mix?
Or did NAPA just not get the color correct?

Wow...It would sure be easy for me to say the 'guy' at NAPA made a mistake, but honestly, I just don't know what went wrong.

I’ll try to give a simple explanation of what can go wrong without sounding too much like B.S.:

I have (or had) a PPG Deltron paint mixing machine and toner system in my shop. There are nine different toners for silver alone. One in particular is 116 but - #116N, 116A and 116E - All three are labeled 116. N was a new formula, A was the preceding formula for N and the E is a European polished cut on both sides of that particular metallic. Polished cut on both sides of each flake ’looks’ identical in the can, but once it’s reduced and sprayed it has twice the depth and reflectivity in the base coat, and even more when used in the clears. It’s also considerably more expensive than the A and N.

The point I’m trying to make is when you mix a color for a painter, or you, a customer and it contains, say, six different toners to make one color…it’s very easy to grab a toner (and seemingly the correct one) mix, shake, open the can and it does appear to be a near perfect match to a color chip (in NAPA’s book)…but once you get it home, mix it and shoot it, it can be way off the desired match you were expecting.

Or, The formula we have in the MU list is wrong. That’s certainly not impossible…I just hope not.
